Oral Care for Persons in Residential Care Facilities
Daily mouth care can improve the oral health of the patient in residential care by decreasing dental disease. This may also reduce the risk of serious health problems, such as aspiration pneumonia and cardiovascular disease, and could help with the control of diabetes.
It is hoped that a group approach to oral care, including residential care staff, friends and family, will improve oral hygiene and prevent oral diseases and general health problems. This can greatly enhance the quality of life for elderly residents.
